What we collect
The bracket generator runs entirely in your browser. There is no account and no login: the team names, seeds and results you enter are never sent to us and never stored on a server. They are held in the page while you work, and a bracket you share travels inside the share URL itself, which is what makes the link reopen the bracket. Anyone holding that link can therefore see it, so do not put anything private in team names.
If you choose to make a tournament live. There is an optional button marked “Run it live”. Your bracket is not sent anywhere unless you press it, and the generator itself is unchanged whether you press it or not. If you do press it, the tournament is stored on our server so that results can update on other people's phones as you record them, and this is what is held:
- The tournament itself: its name, the entrant names you typed, the stages and the results. Anyone with the link can view it, which is the point of it.
- Entrant email addresses, only if you add them. They are used for one thing, which is telling that person when they are next on, and they are never used to market anything to them. A person can be entered with no email address at all and most are.
- A recovery email address, only if you add one. It exists so that an organiser who loses the device holding their key can get back in, and it is used for nothing else.
Because it is stored and shareable, a live tournament is publishing rather than note-taking. You can rank whatever you like: brackets of bands, films, footballers and public figures are what most brackets on the internet are. The line is harm rather than taste, so what we will remove is a tournament built to harass, threaten or humiliate a private individual, anything unlawful, and anything pretending to be us or somebody else. There is no moderation queue and we do not read tournaments as a matter of course, but we will act on a report and we can remove one without notice. Report a tournament, or ask for one naming you to be taken down, at privacy@digitalsignet.com.
A live tournament and everything attached to it, entrant email addresses included, is deleted automatically 90 days after it was last opened. An organiser can delete one at any time from the tournament screen, and that deletion removes the personal data immediately rather than marking it hidden. We do not sell any of it, and it is not used for advertising.
The data we process about your visit itself comes from two sources.
Aggregate analytics. Google Analytics 4 records your visit (page viewed, referring page, device type, approximate location by country or region, and a pseudonymous identifier) so we can see which pages are useful. IP addresses are anonymised.
Nothing else. There are no advertising scripts, no advertising cookies, no consent management platform and no third-party trackers on this site. Google Analytics 4 is the only third-party script that loads.
How this site is funded, and your choices
This site carries no advertising, no sponsored placements and no affiliate links. It is free to use, and it is paid for by Digital Signet Limited as part of a wider portfolio of reference and calculator sites. If that changes and advertising is added later, this page will be updated before any ad script goes live, and the ads will be labelled.
US visitors. Because there is no advertising layer, we do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined by the California Consumer Privacy Act as amended (CCPA/CPRA) or by the similar laws in Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia and other states, and there is nothing here to opt out of. The rights listed below still apply to the analytics data described above, and you can exercise them by emailing privacy@digitalsignet.com.
Turning analytics off. Google Analytics is the only measurement on the site. You can block it with the Google Analytics opt-out add-on, with any tracker-blocking extension, or by using your browser's private mode. The bracket generator works exactly the same either way, because it never talks to a server.
Embeds, providers and transfers
If you embed a bracket on your own site, the embed loads from this domain and the same analytics described above apply to the embedded frame.
If you send us feedback. Every page has a “Questions or suggestions?” box in the footer. Nothing is sent unless you write something and press Send. If you do, we receive what you wrote, which page you were on, and your browser's user agent string, which is the line every browser sends describing itself. We do not ask for your name or your email address and the box is not a way for us to reply, so if you want a reply, use the email link beside it instead. Please do not put personal details in the box. We keep these messages for up to 90 days and then delete them.
Three providers process data on our behalf: Cloudflare (DNS, security and hosting), Google Analytics (aggregate site statistics), and our own application server hosted with Hetzner in Germany, which is what receives a live tournament and any feedback you send. We require them to process personal data only for the services they provide to us and in line with applicable data protection law.
We are a UK controller with an international readership. Our providers may process data in the United States and other countries. Where UK or EU data protection law applies to a transfer, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as adequacy arrangements or standard contractual clauses.
Retention and your rights
The generator itself holds no personal data: a bracket you have not made live never leaves your browser. What we do hold is what you chose to send us. A live tournament and everything attached to it is deleted 90 days after it was last opened, and feedback sent from the box in the footer is deleted after 90 days. Google Analytics data is retained for 14 months and then aggregated or deleted, per our GA4 configuration. No other cookies are set by this site.
Depending on where you live, you have the right to ask us to:
- give you a copy of the data we hold about you (access);
- correct it (rectification);
- delete it (erasure);
- limit what we do with it (restriction);
- stop processing it (objection);
- stop selling or sharing it for targeted advertising;
- withdraw consent you previously gave.
Email privacy@digitalsignet.com and we will act within one month (45 days for CCPA requests). We will not discriminate against you for exercising any of these rights. If you are in the UK you can also complain to the ICO at ico.org.uk; if you are in the EU, to your local supervisory authority.
Children and changes
School and club tournaments are a common use for this tool, but the site is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has provided personal information, email privacy@digitalsignet.com and we will delete it.
If we change this policy we will post the new version on this page with a new effective date.
